Not really. However, around 0930 hrs Engine 533B was dispatched to an ems call in the Camp Upshur section of the base. While responding to the call, traveling down MCB1 a large turkey attempted to take flight out from the woods just as the engine was passing by. The turkey crashed through the windshield on the right side, bounced off of Captain B. Bryant, and then landed behind. The turkey immediately got back up and began thrashing around the cab in front of the Captain, who was fighting back. Great job done by Sgt. C. Stevens who was driving. He managed to avoid hitting a guardrail and running off of the road all while he was attempting to fend off the turkey with one hand and look out the windshield on his side through the blinding storm of feathers. He was able to safely bring the engine to a stop. Once the engine stopped the crew jumped off as the turkey had got entangled in the radio cords and fell out of the cab where it quickly succumbed from its injuries. Despite winning his fierce battle with the turkey, Captain Bryant was taken to Stafford Hospital where he was treated and released for a few minor injuries he suffered during the battle.
The ems call at Camp Upshur was handled by other available units.
